  • Description

President Daniel Arap Moi of Kenya has been in Brussels to hold talks with EEC officials.

SYNOPSIS: President Moi was making his first visit outside Africa since taking office following the death of President Jomo Kenyatta in August. He arrived at European Economic Community headquarters on Thursday (16 November) to be met by EEC President, Mr. Roy Jenkins. President Moi had just come from Paris, where he had talks with President Giscard d'Estaing and other Government leaders, on technical, economic and military aid for his country. France has said it is prepared to sell military equipment to Kenya on long-term credit.

The EEC is an important trading partner of Kenya, which sends more than a third of its exports to Community members, from whom it buys 40 percent of its imports. Under the Lome Convention which links the EEC with 54 African, Carribbean and Pacific countries, Kenya is receiving aids this year worth 96 million dollars.
