  • Description

The Soviet airlines will soon be serviced by a new jet airliner--the TU-134 designed by Andrei Tupolev and his team. The plane is now making trial flights. The TU-134 is a comparatively small plane: about 120 ft. long and with a wing-span of some 95 ft. The airliner will carry 72 passengers. In performance the new plane is better than its predecessor -- the TU-124. The TU-134 can fly 5 hours non-stop. The maximum speed is 530 miles per hour, flying altitude is 7 miles. The plane can land in any weather.

Smooth landing qualities are achieved by unique landing gear with lever-type suspension. The passengers won't even fell the seams of the concrete runway.

The TU-134 has twin by-pass engines mounted in the tailpart of the fuselage..The powerful engines ensure take-off after half a mile down the runway. This solves the noise problem in the area surrounding the airport. The new plane is easy to pilot..Even an airman of medium qualification can cope with the task.

The tests of the TU-134 are successful.
