  • Description

Providing an air defence warning in the Florida Straits are a detachment of aircraft which are virtually 'flying radar stations'.

They average eight to eleven hours in the air on each mission, searching out and tracking down aircraft approaching the United States coast, and enabling interceptor jets to deal with intruders.

The radar aircraft, stationed at McCoy Air Force Base, Florida are attached to a United States Early Warning and Control Squadron.

Each of these "flying radar stations" is known affectionately to its crew as "Connie", and officially as a "Warning Star" type of aircraft.

When an "unknown" is declared, a ground station is notified, and supersonic jet interceptor aircraft scramble from the nearest United States air defence base. The jets are directed by'Connie'to locate the intruder, and when the "unknown" is found to be friendly, as in this film, the jets return to their home base.
