The First conference to be held by the National Union of Workers in Chad, is taking place at Fort Lamy this weekend. The conference was opened on Friday, when delegates from all over the country heard speeches from the union's deputy General Secretary, Mr Ali Salim and the Chad Minister of Labour, Youth and Sports Mr Ali Keke.
In his opening address to the delegates, Mr Salim said that the main duty of the trade union movement in Chad was to lead workers towards a better and more promising future. But the unions also had a duty towards building up the nation he said, and co-operation with the government was a necessity.
Mr Ali Keke told the conference that the government congratulated the organisers and those attending. He reminded them that they were the guardians of progress in the Republic of Chad and held the key to the country's future prosperity.
