    BUT THEREAFTER, COX BEGAN TO FADE BEFORE THE RELENTLESS ACCURACY OF THE AUSTRALIAN, AND LOST THE FINAL TWO SETS 6-2, 6-0.

    OTHERWISE, TODAY WAS A DAY OF DISASTER FOR AUSTRALIA AND SEEDED PLAYERS IN THE NEW'S SINGLES. ROSEWALL, SEEDED NO. 2, AND TWO OTHER SEEDED AUSTRALIANS, EMERSON AND STOLE WERE PUT OUT.
