  • Description

Brazil celebrated their arrival in West Germany for next month's World Cup with a 3-2 win over a representative Xl from the Kaisers-Lautern area on Sunday (26 May).

The World Champions received a rousing welcome from the 40,000 crowd at Ludwigshafen but their performance did not come up to expectation.

Jupp Derwall, an assistant of West German national trainer Helmut Schoen, said Brazil played without harmony although he admitted they were at half-pace.

Rivelino put Brazil ahead early on after a skilful piece of play at the edge of the area -- but Elting, the Selection Xl's goalkeeper had his view blocked by a defender.

The Selection Xl were equal within ten minutes when Toppmoeller was fouled as he was about to score. Dielh converted the penalty, but Brazil regained the lead immediately with an accurate left-foot shot from Valdomiro.

Brazilian goalkeeper Wendell looked at fault when the Selection side equalised again. Pirrung's close range shot found a gap at eh near post.

With the half time score 2-2 Brazil attacked strongly after the restart. Rivelino lobbed the winner over Elting as he left his goal-line and Brazil only did what was necessary to hold their lead in the final half hour.
