Visnews filmed in Bonn, Western Germany June 10 as Dr. Adenauer and Professor Erhard arrived for the special meeting of the Christian Democratic party, which successfully healed the differences between them, caused by the Chancellor's decision to remain in office.
The meeting passed an unanimous vote of confidence in Dr. Erhard and heard Dr. Adenauer pay a glowing tribute to the Minister of Economics.
It was the climax of a series of meetings between the two men, engineered by Dr. Krone, Chairman of the Christian Democratic Party. Professor Erhard, given an ovation by the deputies, felt that his reputation had been harmed. He said he had never made a claim to the office of Chancellor, and would never do so while the Chancellor remained in office.
Dr. Adenauer stated he never intended to harm Erhard's reputation. He went on to give additional reasons for his surprise decision last week. He recalled that at Potsdam in 1945 there had been unfavourable consequences after Mr. Atlee replaced Mr. Churchill. Furthermore, since his acceptance of the Presidential candidacy, Mr. Dulles had died and there had been grave developments at Geneva.
