    MAJ. GEN. W. C. WALKER, DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS AND COMMANDER OF BRITISH FORCES IN BORNEO TERRITORIES, ARRIVED IN MIRI AREA FOR INSPECTION ON DECEMBER 24 AND WAS RECEIVED AT THE AIRPORT BY HIS SISTER, MRS. FISHER AND BROTHER-IN-LAW MR. J. C. B. FISHER WHO IS BRITISH RESIDENT FOR FOURTH DIVISION, SARAWAK.

    MRS. FISHER IS MEETING HER BROTHER AFTER FOUR YEARS.

    GEN. WALKER'S NEW POST WAS CREATED TO CONDUCT THE SECOND PHASE OF OPERATIONS AGAINST THE REBELS. THE SECOND PHASE WILL BE FOUGHT IN THE JUNGLES AND MOUNTAINS OF BORNEO TERRITORIES AND IT ALSO AIMS AT COORDINATING THE ACTION AND RESOURCES OF THE SECURITY FORCES WITH THE CIVIL ADMINISTRATION.

    THE FIRST PHASE OF FIGHT AGAINST THE REBELS WAS CONDUCTED BY BRIG. GLENNIE. GEN. WALKER BECAME DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS ON DECEMBER 19.

    GEN. WALKER HAS BEEN A KEY MILITARY FIGURE IN FIGHTING THE MALAYAN COMMUNIST TERRORISTS SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE EMERGENCY IN 1948. HE ORGANIZED THE TRAINING OF JUNGLE FIGHTERS IN THE JUNGLE WARFARE WING OF THE FAR EAST LAND FORCES' TRAINING CENTRE.
