  • Description

Member countries of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific .......... ESCAP .......... have criticised the so called North-South Dialogue that has been going on in Paris between the developed and under developed nations of the World. The members were attending the annual ESCAP conference being held in Bangkok. The Indonesian Foreign Minister, Mr. Adam Malik, said the Paris talks had achieved no postive results in the crucial areas regarding developing nations.

The Thai Prime Minister, Mr. Thanin Kraivichien, said there should be greater co-operation between the developed and underdeveloped nations of the world. He said such co-operation was needed to encourage political and economic stability. The Prime Minister said the developed industrialised nations had just as much at stake in preserving such stability as those member nations of the so called, Third World.

The Japanese Minister of State and Director General of the Economic Planning Agency, Mr. Tadashi Kuranari, told the delegates that the world was facing a serious situation of economic stagnation which affected all countries.
