    THREE VISNEWS CAMERAMEN WERE HONOURED WHEN AWARDS FOR THE BEST TELEVISION NEWS FILMS FOR 1969 WERE PRESENTED TONIGHT (TUESDAY). PRIZES WERE WON BY W. McCONVILLE, VISNEWS' CHIEF CAMERAMEN IN LONDON, AND MOHAMMED AMIN AND R. ROBINSON BASED IN NAIROBI.

    THE AWARDS WERE PRESENTED BY THE MINISTER FOR POSTS AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS, MR. JOHN STONEHOUSE.

    NICHOLAS LERA OF THE BBC WAS AWARDED THE TITLE OF BRITISH TELEVISION NEWS CAMERAMEN OF THE YEAR. LERA WON THE PORTFOLIO SECTION WITH FILM OF THREE DIFFERENT TYPES OF PROTEST. HE WAS SECOND IN THE HARD NEWS (SOUND) SECTION AND ALSO GAINED AN HONOURABLE MENTION IN THIS SECTION.

    McCONVILLE WAS SECOND IN THE SPORT SECTION WITH HIS ENTRY "KID'S MOTOCROSS." HE ALSO ACCEPTED AN AWARD ON BEHALF OF MOHAMMED AMIN, WHO WON THE HARD NEWS (SILENT) CATEGORY WITH HIS FILM "MBOYA ASSASSINATED".

    AMONG OTHERS TO RECEIVE AWARDS WERE W. BAGLIN OF THE BBC WHO SHARED SECOND PRIZE IN THE HARD NEWS (TEAM) SECTION WITH AMIN AND R. ROBINSON OF VISNEWS FOR COVERAGE OF MBOYA'S FUNERAL.

    THIS WAS THE 10TH ANNUAL CONTEST AND WAS OPEN TO STAFF AND FREELANCE CAMERAMEN IN BRITAIN, THE COMMONWEALTH, SOUTH AFRICA AND IRELAND.
