  • Description

Argentina's Victor Galindez won the vacant World Boxing Assocation (WBA) Light-heavy weight title in Buenoes Aires on Sunday (8 December).

Calindez took the crown when his opponent -- Len Hutchins of Detroit, U.S.A. -- failed to come out for the 13th round of their 15-round contest.

His victory gave Argentina its second world title -- countryman Carlos Monzon holds the WBA Middle-weight crown.

Galindsz had been piling up the points form the fifth round and the American was often flailing wildly, drawing repeated warnings from the referes for open-handed hitting.

By the tenth and 11th rounds, both men were visibly exhausted after much grim sluggings from both sides.

However, Galindez mustered extra strength in the 12th round to force Hutchins against the ropes. And Hutchins failed to come out of his corner for the 13th round.

More than 15,000 boxing fans gathered at Luna Park Stadium to watch the fight.
