Background: Despite world-wide protest seal hunters were out in force in Canada this week for the start of the season. Methods used by the seal hunters, clubbing instead of bullets to preserve the pelts, have been condemned by animal preservation organisations throughout the world. The Ottawa Government reacted by setting a limit on the number of pelts which can be taken during a season. The pelts sell for between four and eight pounds each.
This film, which includes scenes which may be offensive to some people, was shot under sub zero temperatures. As a result there are blotches caused by water freezing on the camera lens.
