    Moroccan troops boarded American transport aircraft at Sale Airport, Rabat, July 16, before flying out to Leopoldville to join the United Nations force in the troubled Congo Republic. They were scheduled to arrive July 17.

    Ghanaian and Tunisian troops are already relieving Belgian paratroops entrenched in and around Leopoldville and Thysville. A battalion of Ethiopian troops left Addis Ababa July 17.

    Harassed United Nations officials in the Congo - led by Dr. Ralph Bunche, UN Under-Secretary General - have appealed for more troops. United Nations sources in New York July 17 said five more countries -- Ireland; Sweden; Yugoslavia; Burma and Haiti -- have been asked to send troops to re-inforce the 3,000 strong UN force already in operation.

    Belgian paratroops were reported July 17 to have arrested Victor Lundula, the former Sergeant-Major who was appointed "commanding General" of the mutinous Force Publique. He was said to have been hiding in Jadotville.

    A July 17 statement made in Stanleyville by Jacques Lumbala, one of nine Congolese Secretaries of State, said the Lumumba Government threatens to invite Russian troops into the Congo unless Belgian military forces are withdrawn within three days. His statement provoked a public quarrel with Premier Lumumba who said he would take the severest measures against Lumbala for disclosing the Government's plans.
