    Cuban Prime Minister Fidel Castro, wearing a Polish miner's back uniform, toured the former Nazi World War Two extermination camp at Auschwitz on Thursday (8 June), where an estimated Tour million people died. Dr. Castro also visited the women's section of the camp, the near-by Birkenau, where he laid a wreath in honour of those who died.

    The Cuban leader arrived in Warsaw earlier in the week as part of a six-week tour of Eastern Europe. He was making a three-day journey through Poland's industrial provinces, visiting factories, mines and shipyards.

    Dr. Castro also laid a wreath at a vast monument to Auschwitz victims inside the camp.

    He was accompanied by Polish Communist Party officials as he visited the camp museum and toured the huts and buildings.

    On Saturday (10 June), the Cuban Premier began a scheduled weekend rest period before taking part in further talks with Communist Party Chief Edward Gierek. Dr. Castro will then continue his tour with a trip to East Berlin.

    Wearing a Polish miner's back uniform, the Cuban leader walked around the camp accompanied by Polish Communist Party officials. Dr. Castro had arrived in Warsaw earlier in the week as part of a six-week tour of Eastern Europe. When he visited the camp, he was making a three-day swing through Poland's industrial provinces, visiting factories, mines and shipyards.

    The Cuban leader also visited the women's section of the camp--the near-by Birkenau. There too, he laid a wreath in honour of those who died.
