  • Description

President Bhutto of Pakistan and President Pompidou of France met for an hour and a half on Wednesday (25 July) to discuss political and economic relations between their two countries.

President Bhutto arrived earlier from London for his two-day visit to Paris. He was President Pompidou's luncheon guest at the Elysee Palace, and then the two leaders sat down to a half-hour discussion in private. They were joined later by their senior advisers for more talks.

President Bhutto and President Pimpidou parted with a warm handshake on the steps of the Palace.

President Bhutto told reporters the talks had been "useful and productive." "We wish to intensify our relations with France in all fields," he added. Asked whether the talks covered Pakistani arms purchases in France, he replied: "We discussed all matters."
Observers believe President Bhutto also sought assistance in bolstering Pakistan's economy.
