    SYNOPSIS: At Saskatoon, sixteen men ann six women are chosen to represent Canada in the track and field competitions at the British Empire and Commonwealth games this summer.     The women's javelin competition. (SLIGHT PAUSE) It was a two-day meet, with competitors from across Canada for the twenty-two positions on the National team. This year, the British Empire Games are being held at Cardiff, Wales, beginning on July the 18th.

    In slow motion, Bob Reid shows his form in the pole vaulting event - who won the entry and tried for a new record of fourteen feet, but he failed.

    A Canadian record was set in the men's 880-yard event at Saskatoon. It was won by Joe Mullins of Glace Bay, Nova Snotia, Another member of the team going to Wales, His time: one minute and fifty-one seconds, one second under the previous record. The selection committee took seven and-a half hours to pick the Canadian team after studying the results.
