    The use of satellite photography to develop natural resources is the subject of a seminar which opened in Nairobi in Kenya on Thursday (21 March).

    The conference is jointly sponsored by the Kenyan Government and the University of Nairobi, in co-operation with the U.S. Agency for International Development. Administrators and technicians from eleven African nations are attending the two-week seminar.

    Its aim is to make African governments aware of the potential of using technology like remote-sensing methods as aids to national and regional development. Aircraft and satellite photography, analysed and processed by modern equipment is now recognised as an economical and reliable sources of information on the environment.

    Delegates to the conference will study photographs taken by the first Earth Resources Technology satellite and will then move on to an analysis of this technology and its application in African development programmes.

    The Kenyan Minister for Natural Resources, Mr. J. H. O. Omino welcomed the delegates to the Kenyatta Conference Centre for the opening Session. The U.S. Ambassador to Kenya, Mr. Anthony Marshall also gave an address.
