  • Description

Passengers on the KLM Lockheed Super Constellation "Negaton" which left Amsterdam Airport on Saturday, February 1st, for the west Indies discovered that they had a royal travelling companion on board.

Leaving for a four week-visit to Curacao, in the Dutch West Indies, Princess Beatrix was travelling on the schedule flight together with members of her suite.

The Crown Princess, who had celebrated her 20th birthday the day before her departure, has been invited to visit the islands by the Government of the Dutch Antilles (Arube, Curacao, Bonaire, St.Maarten, St.Bustacius and Saba) and the Government of Suriname (Dutch Guiana).

These tropical parts of the world are independent parts of the Netherlands Kingdom and are well known for their loyalty to the Dutch royal family.

Present at the airport to watch her departure was the Queen and the Crown Princesses sisters, Marijke and Margriet. Her Father, Prince Bernhard, is on safari in Uganda.
