TRANSCRIPT: REPORTER: "It's three weeks since President Sadat angrily denounced Ayatollah Khomeini. The Egyptian leader has maintained studied silence on the Iranian crisis. Today Sadat emerged from his Nile side resthouse to pray at the tiny neighbourhood Mosque close by. Sadat's offer of asylum for the Shah has been overshadowed by reports that the deposed Monarch intended to take up residence in Mexico, an alternative that seems to have disappeared.

SEQ. 4: SADAT: "Our position remains that we are ready to receive him immediately and we didn't receive anything officially, but before I came her I contacted the Prime Minister and there have been certain instructions to be sent to our Ambassador to contact the American administration and the Shah"

REPORTER: "Sadat admitted that he had received no reply to his original invitation. But he discounted the possibility that the Shah's presence in Egypt might cause Sadat problems here at home."

Egypt was the first country to receive the Shah when he left Iran in January. He spent six days in Aswan before going to Morocco, the Bahamas and finally Mexico. The Egyptian parliament passed a special motion earlier in the year granting the Shah refuge there.
