  • Description

Israel has said it would boycott the Geneva peace negotiations in the United Nations Security Council if the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) is invited to participate.

And the country's Foreign Minister, Mr. Yigal Allon, has strongly attacked the Security Council. On his departure to the united States on Monday (5 January) for talks with Washington officials, he called the Security Council the "insecurity council."
He called for the reconvening of the Geneva peace conference and said the extremist elements of the Security Council must not be allowed to turn the council into a "peace conference de facto".

Mr. Allon said the last institution which could become an instrument of peace is the Security Council.

His news conference followed Israel serving notice that it may boycott the Geneva peace negotiations. The Cabinet said that any changes in previous Security Council resolutions, which form the basis for the Geneva Peace talks, would disrupt moves to negotiate a secure and lasting peace.
