  • Description

Improvements to the distribution of electricity supplies throughout East and Central Africa were discussed at an eleven-nation conference in Kampala, Uganda, last week. Major consideration was given to the role electricity could play in helping the economic development of countries -- and to the distribution of domestic power supplies to people living in isolated rural areas.

The meeting was the sixth annual conference of East Central African Electricity Undertakings. Closing the week-long conference on Friday(July 28), the Ugandan Power and Communications Minister, Lieutenant-Colonel Ernest Obitre-Gama, suggested several methods to improve efficiency. He called for a staff exchange programme, efforts to standardise machinery and steps to avoid the wastage of unused stores.
