  • Description

Rumours of a possible ceasefire and peace settlement to the Vietnam conflict continue to circulate, but the fighting continues. President Nixon's adviser, Dr. Henry Kissinger, is currently in Saigon for talks with South Vietnam's President Thieu.

Both North Vietnamese and U.S. officials have hinted at a settlement in the not too distant future. The possible breakthrough is thought to have arisen from the latest round of secret Vietnam peace talks in Paris.

Observers speculate that a first step could be a ceasefire in South Vietnam, coupled with a cessation of U.S. bombing over North Vietnam. But until these rumours are confirmed, the fighting and bombing continues. The North Vietnamese continue to claim that U.S. bombing is not restricted to military targets. As an example of what they refer to as "the beginning of genocide", official North Vietnamese sources released this film showing the destruction in the small town of Kien Am. The North Vietnamese say town has been bombed by U.S. 'planes 19 times since the first of April.
