  • Description

Even before the British plan was announced, the Turks had begun to demonstrate publicly their strong national feelings over Cyprus. An early meeting was held in Antalye, where people flocked from miles around to a mass protest meeting. Some university students even made a long journey by plane to attend.

Our film shows how the meeting was addressed by various speakers, including a girl student. A three-year-old boy paraded around with the motto on his chest, "Cyprus is Turkish."
The depth of Turkish feeling over Cyprus has increased in its public outcries since the revealing of the British plan of co-partnership last week. In contrast, a subdued tone was noted in the Greek reply and in a personal letter from Archbishop Makarios, Enosis leader, to Governor of the island, Sir Hugh Foot.
