    Representatives of the European development Fund (FED) and the Chad government ended a two-day meeting in N'Djamena on Saturday (27 March) after discussing what aid Chad could expect in the next four years.

    The meeting was chaired by Chad's Minister of Finance and the Economy, General Negue Djogo, and the talks centred mainly on a development plan for his country.

    The plan is aimed principally at reducing transport costa, easing Chard's isolation, developing various industries, including cotton, improving agriculture and improving tourism.

    To complete the development plan, Chad is seeking aid from the FED and other international organisations and friendly countries.

    Much of the work under the plan is already underway. A new pipeline system. for drinking water has already been started and some schools and hospitals in the more remote areas of Chad have been established.

    In the past 17 years the fund has already donated GBP65 million (US $130 million).

    At the end of the conference, the FED agreed to give further aid, but no specific details were announced.
