Background: Dahomey head of State Hubert Maga flew into Lome last week (August 12) to discuss with President Etienne Eyadema the abortive coup in Togo the previous weekend. M. Maga told reporters that he regretted Dahomians were implicated in an attempt to topple President Eyadema's government -- adding that measures had already been taken against those involved.
Noe Kutuklui, a Togolese lawyer exiled in Dahomey for several years, has been named a leader of the attempted coup -- smashed when security forces arrested 17 conspirators alleged to be plotting the assassination of President Eyadema.
A former Dahomey Minister of Public Health and Social Affairs, M. Benjamin D'Almeida -- known to be a personal friend of M. Mutuklui -- was also reported to have been arrested.
