Background: A chicken breeder at Nahlat Yehuda, near Tel Aviv, Israel, found a four legged chicken amongst the latest batch to hatch. It's a Rhode Island bird. What advantages a quadruped chicken has over its two legged relatives are as yet undefined, but it's certainly stirring up interest in Israel. The Nahlat Yehuda Agricultural College has the chick under its wing. At present it is in an incubator undergoing continuous study.

Anatomically, apart from its auxiliary pair of legs, the freak chick is much the same as any other four month old nestling. Its spare legs are hunched up near its tail end, looking very much like an aircraft undercarriage that's stuck.
