  • Description

Though international aid has been pouring into Ethiopia to bring relief to the hundreds-of-thousands suffering from famine, the country itself is still exporting much-needed foodstuffs. One of the latest shipment of livestock was filmed as it passed through the port of Djibouti, in the neighbouring Territory of Afars and Issas.

More than 2,000 head of camels, cattle and sheep were being exported aboard a Panamanian registered freighter for Jeddah and the Saudi Arabian markets.

Reports from Djibouti indicate that similar shipments have been underway for several months. During that same time, figure have been published suggesting that more than one-and-a-half million Ethiopians have been affected by famine and drought.

The United nations has even reported that as may as 100,000 people may have died. And the loss of cattle and sheep is on a huge scale.
