    The Dares Salaam office of the Pan Africanist Congress of South Africa held a rally on Sunday (MARCH 21) afternoon to mark Sharpeville Day. It was the Sharpeville Massacre of March 21, 1960 that made the work Sharpeville an international symbol of opposition to apartheid.

    Sixty one Africans dies and 180 were wounded when police in the African township of Sharpeville near Johannesburg, opened fire on a crowd of Africans demonstrating against apartheid pass laws.

    At the rally in Dares Salaam, Tanzania's Economic Development Minister Abdulrehman Mohammed Babu spoke to a crowd assembled outside the headquarters of the ruling TANU Party Youth League. Envoys of the Peoples Republic of China, Guinea, North Korea and North Vietnam attended the rally.
