    CONTINUING HIS TOUR OF WEST AFRICAN STATES, PRESIDENT BOURGUIBA OF TUNISIA ARRIVED IN NIAMEY, CAPITAL OF NIGER ON SUNDAY, AND WAS PRESENT AT THE CEREMONIAL OPENING OF THE HOUSE OF AFRICA - A FINE THREE STOREY BUILDING WHICH WILL HOUSE THE UNITED NATIONS REGIONAL SERVICES AND AGENCIES.

    THE CEREMONY WAS PERFORMED BY THE NIGER PRESIDENT, DIORI HAMANI. AMONG THE OTHER DISTINGUISHED VISITORS PRESENT WAS MR. ROBERT GARDINER, SECRETARY GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS ECONOMIC COMMISSION FOR AFRICA, AND THE DIRECTOR OF THE REGIONAL OFFICE WHICH WILL BE LOOKING AFTER 14 COUNTRIES, M. KASSE BABA.

    THE DECISION TO BUILD THIS REGIONAL CENTRE WAS TAKEN AT ADDIS ABABA IN FEBRUARY 1962. ITS THREE FLOORS AND 50 OFFICES WILL HOUSE THE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE UNITED NATIONS ECONOMIC COMMISSION FOR WEST AFRICAN, THE U.N. TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AND SPECIAL FUND, AND THE REGIONAL OFFICES OF THE FOOD AND AGRICULTURAL ORGANISATION AND THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION.

    (THE CEREMONY WAS POSTPONED 24-HOURS TO ALLOW PRESIDENT BOURGUIBA TO BE PRESENT. COUNTRIES WHICH WILL BE SERVED FROM THIS NEW REGIONAL HEADQUARTERS ARE: NIGER, THE IVORY COAST, UPPER VOLTA, DAHOMEY, GHANA, LIBERIA, SIERRA LEONE, SENEGAL, MAURETANIA, MALI, NIGERIA, TOGO, GAMBIA AND GUINEA.)
