    Prince Charles became a Freeman of the City of London today (Tuesday, 2 March) in a ceremony of traditional pomp and colour. It was one of his last public engagements before he joins the Royal Air Force as a flight lieutenant next week for five months' jet acrobatic training. Later he is expected to join the Royal Navy. The Heir to the British Throne drove to the ceremony at Guildhall in an open horse-drawn carriage. He was accompanied by his sister, Princess Anne.

    SYNOPSIS: Prince Charles and his sister. Princess Anne, drove through the streets of London on Tuesday to Guildhall where the Heir to the british Throne was made a Freeman of the City. It was one of his last public engagements before he joins the Royal Air Force as a flight lieutenant next week for jet acrobatic training. Later he is expected to serve with the Royal Navy. After a fanfare the Prince was asked to take the traditional oath as a Freeman.

    Britain's Prime Minister. Mr Heath, attended the ceremony and afterwards the waiting crowd rushed to see the Prince and Princess on the balcony. Earlier Freemen of the City include the 19th-Century Italian patriot, Garibaldi, and India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.
