Background: VISNEWS filmed Feb 17 the arrival at No 10 Downing Street of the Mr Karamanlis, the Greek Premier, for dinner with the British Premier Mr Harold MacMillan.

Another guest was to have been the Turkish Premier, Mr Menderes, but having been involved in a lucky escape from the blazing wreck of a Viscount aircraft, bringing him to London from Turkey this afternoon, he was suffering from shock and bruises.

Due to thick fog at London Airport Mr Menderes aircraft was diverted to Gatwick Airport. While in circuit the aircraft crashed on a farm at Newdigate, near Horsham, Surrey Feb 17. Mr Menderes managed to scramble clear of the blazing wreck. Others were not so lucky. Police and firemen searching the wreckage found ten bodies. Nine others were injured, some seriously.

Mr Karamanlis and Mr Menderes were flying to London to attend the round-table conference on Cyprus at London's Lancaster House. Opening session this morning.
