Background: North of the Arctic circle some six thousand men of NATO's Mobile Force are engaged in a big exercise to test defences along NATO's northern flank.
Belgian, Italian, British and American troops are taking part. The opposition is provided by a Norwegian brigade. Tactical air support comes from Belgium, the Netherlands, the United States and Britain.
Code-named "Northern Express", the exercise lasts until June the 20th. Its main purpose is to try out the Allied Mobile Force (AMF), which is designed to cope with brush-fire wars.
In this land of the Midnight Sun, where the sun never sets at the time of year, the NATO soldiers are hunting down a supposed enemy who has infiltrated behind the Norwegian defences.
