Chelsea relied a good deal throughout the game on high lobs into the penalty area. Real managed to clear this one.
A move down the right flank by Cooke and Boyle led to Chelsea scoring first. The scorer, Peter Osgood in the 56th minute.
Now Real threw everything into the attack, with Chelsea holding on to their lead, and attacking when they could. But time was running out and Chelsea seemed set to become the fourth English side to win the European cup. In the final minute of play, the score line still read one-nil to Chelsea But before the 90 minutes were up the Spaniards saved the evening with a crashing shot from Zoco.
So now it was one-all, and the match went into extra time. But there were no more goals, and the two teams must meet again in Athens on Friday for the replay.
