The national parliament convened in Moscow today. The more than 1500 Members than entered the Grand Kremlin Palace this morning represented fifty-eight Soviet nationalities.
The session opened at noon. Earlier, the two Houses had met separately to decide on the order of business. The main points are the draft development plan and draft budget for next year.
The draft plan was presented for the government by Member Nikolai Baibakov, chairman of the Planning Committee. The Member said that the Soviet Union would make another major advance in economic development and living standards in the coming year. Industrial output would register a growth of just over seven per cent. Farm output would also increase over the current year, although the harvest this year was a record one. People's incomes, the Member said, would increase by just over five per cent.
