The British Ambassador to the United Nations, Mr. Ivor Richard, discussed the Rhodesian problem with the U.S. Secretary of State, Dr. Henry Kissinger in New York on Thursday (30 September). The talks followed the appointment of Mr. Richard to chair the coming black-white talks on setting up an interim Government for Rhodesia.
SYNOPSIS: The two men were together for 45 minutes and later, Mr. Richard refused to discuss details of the settlement. However, he was optimistic of the chances of reaching agreement, and said he expected to leave for a conference towards the end of the following week.
Dr. Kissinger spoke at the United Nations General Assembly and warned against foreign intervention in the affairs of southern Africa.
