    Congolese Premier Louis Sylvain Goma and Egyptian Prime Minster Mamdouh Salem issued a joint communique condemning the "racist regimes of Israel and South Africa" after their talks in Cairo on Sunday (18 April).

    Released after two days of discussions between the two men, the communique said the recent visit to Israel by South African Prime Minister John Vorster "illustrates the extent of cooperation between racism and Zionism against the two countries' inhabitants.

    The talks also touched on the Rhodesian situation and both Congo and Egypt pledged to continue their support for "the armed struggle of the native Rhodesians against the movement of Ian Smith" and for all African liberation movements.

    Egypt and Congo called for the resumption of the Geneva Middle East conference "as soon as possible" and agreed that the palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) should be an "equal partner."
    Mr. Salem accepted an invitation to visit Congo at a date to be fixed.

    Mr. Goma continues his Middle East tour this week with a visit to Saudi Arabia.

    SYNOPSIS: The Egyptian Prime Minister's official residence in Cairo was the scene of talks between Premier Mamdouh Salem and his Congolese counterpart Louis Sylvain Goma on Sunday. The discussions centred on the hopes for peace in the Middle East and struggles by liberation groups in Africa.

    Mr. Goma is currently on a Middle East tour and his next stop will be Saudi Arabia for talks on economic and cultural exchanges.

    The two premiers headed delegations that drew up a joint communique at the end of their meeting. The communique pledged support for all liberation groups in Africa and condemned the "racist regimes in Israel and south Africa".

    It said the recent visit to Israel by South Prime Minister John Vorster "illustrates the extent of co-operation between racism and Zionism against the two countries' inhabitants".
