Dr. Kurt Waldheim of Austria, who succeeds U Thant as Secretary-General of the United Nations, called a news conference yesterday (Tuesday) to make public his views on what has been called the most difficult job in the world.
The conference was called directly after Dr. Waldheim had been nominated Secretary-General by the Security Council. His appointment was confirmed today.
Dr. Waldheim has represented Austria at the U.N. for nearly eight years. he told newsmen that during that time he had developed some very positive views about the role of both the U.N. and its Secretary-General:
