    ON WEDNESDAY (FEBRUARY 16TH) FRENCH FOREIGN MINISTER CLAUDE CHEYSSON ARRIVED IN MOSCOW FOR AN OFFICIAL VISIT ON THE INVITATION BY THE SOVIET GOVERNMENT.

    AT THE AIRPORT HE WAS WELCOMED BY HIS SOVIET COUNTERPART ANDREI GROMYKO AND OTHER FOREIGN MINISTRY OFFICIALS.

    M. CHEYSSON MADE A STATEMENT AT THE AIRPORT. HE THANKED FOR THE INVITATION TO VISIT THE SOVIET UNION. HE NOTED THAT THIS VISIT IS NEW POLITICAL MEETING BETWEEN FRANCE AND THE SOVIET UNION, WHO MUST UNDERTAKE COMMON EFFORTS TO ENSURE DETENTE IN RELATIONS BETWEEN NATIONS IN THE AGGRIVATED INTERNATIONAL SITUATION. HE ALSO EXPRESSED CONFIDENCE THAT TRADITIONAL RELATIONS BETWEEN FRANCE AND THE SOVIET UNION WILL BE FURTHER DEVELOPED IN POLITICAL, ECONOMICAL, SCIENTIFIC AND CULTURAL FIELDS.

    ON THURSDAY (FEBRUARY 17TH) SOVIET AND FRENCH FOREIGN MINISTERS HAD TALKS IN THE SOVIET FOREIGN MINISTRY.
