  • Description

Since last winter, a run-away locomotive has been lying on the embankment at the side of the Loetschberg line, smug in the knowledge that she couldn't be moved. But Swiss ingenuity has been in wait for the right time, and the right method.

With the disappearance of the snow; the engineers have struck, and Minnie the loco is back where she belongs.

First a ramp to be built, with rails; then the enlistment of a friendly passing locomotive to give the necessary pull. Check the cables, heave-ho, and up she comes. What an undignified way for a powered engine to climb an embankment. But patience and skill will always conquer, and the vagabond machine is hoisted to the top, to rest her nose, cow like, over the edge of the track and to wait for darkness and a break in the passing traffic.

    Quel honte!
