Background: On November 23rd, FRG Chancellor Helmut Schmidt and his party paid a visit to the former Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. During World War Two/the Nazis murdered in the camp four million people of 28 nationalities.
Chancellor Schmidt saw the camp barracks and paid tribute to the victims. He laid flowers before the Death Wall at the camp.
Next Mr Schmidt left for Birkenau, the second part of Auschwitz Konzlager. Birkenau camp was opened by the Nazis when Auschwitz was too small for the Nazis murderous goals. Chancellor Schmidt laid a wreath at the International Memorial to Fascism Victims and made a statement.
