  • Description

President Eisenhower took to the hustings November 2, and with Vice President Nixon and Vice Presidential candidate, Henry Cabot Lodge, went by helicopter to the Roosevelt Field shopping Centre on Long Island, in Nassau County, USA.

Eisenhower told the throng gathered in windy but sunny Roosevelt Field that Nixon and Lodge offer "the finest type of leadership today that is available to the nation".

The appearance of the President and the Republican candidates in suburban areas is interpreted as an effort to seize as many as possible of the votes in heavily democratic New York.

Kennedy, campaigning in California, has sought to make capital out of the joint appearance. If Mr. Nixon cannot face the American people alone, Kennedy has said, how will he ever face Khrushchev.
