Manchester United took a two-goal lead in their English First Division encounter with Tottenham Hotspur today (Saturday) -- then lost their advantage as Spurs staged a spirited second half comeback to snatch a 2-2 draw.

Spurs, with the ground advantage and superior league form this season, put on all the early pressure.

But it was United--still packed with talent but highly unpredictable--who first threatened to score. From a Bobby Charlton corner, Best flicked a header towards the Spurs goal. Goalkeeper Jennings could only parry the ball, and Knowles was forced to head off the line.

Within two minutes, United had broken through again--and this time they scored. A through ball was headed on by Best, and Dennis Law raced on to it to score with an angled shot.

That was in the 31st minute. Despite counter-attacks by Spurs, there was no further score before half-time.

After the interval, Law and Best continued to tantalise the Spurs defence. And Best scored United's second goal--his 99th for the club--in the 57 minute.

Spurs counter-attacked bravely. Within five minutes thy had pulled back one goal, when a Knowles cross was headed home by Peters.

After another five minutes, Knowles again sent over a dangerous cross. This time Gilzean provided the beautifully judged header which gave Spurs a draw.
