Background: Israeli Phantom jets raided the mountainous Arqoub border area of southeast Lebanon on Monday (11 November) killing four people and wounding several others.

The Lebanese Defence Ministry said the twelve jets bombed several areas in a 17-minute raid. The Ministry said the dead included two Palestinians and the wounded included seven people working in an olive grove.

On Tuesday (12 November) inhabitants of the villages of Mimas and Kfair reported that a forest had been burned and several acres of corps destroyed.

The air raids were the latest in a series of Israeli attacks against the Arqoub area--known to the Israelis as "Fatahland" because of alleged Palestinian commando concentrations in the area.

Lebanon's Prime Minister Rashid Solh described the Israeli raids as "A link in the chain proving Israel's aggressive intentions".
