Background: A medical conference originated under the auspices of the World Health Organisation (W.H.O) and aimed at eradicating tropical diseases in Africa south of the Sahara, ended Friday (4 July) in Brazzaville, capital of the people's Republic of the Congo.
The conference of the consultant Groups for the co-ordination of Biomedical Research in Africa consisted of medical experts from the regions of Africa south of the Sahara.
Recently, the 28th W.H.O assembly in Geneva heard a committee report declaring that medical efforts in this field were neither well financed nor co-ordinated properly.
W.H.O Regional Director,Dr. Comlan A.A Quenum told the opening session that nothing has really been done that it was imperative to co-ordinate for the sake of speed and economy.
The regional group has been charged with organising a co-ordinated programme which W.H.O envisages will cost GBP6,7???0,000 (15,000,000 U.S. dollars) a year when it is fully operational.
