SYNOPSIS: A short distance from the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa -- the annual meeting of the All Africa Leprosy and Rehabilitation Training Centre, known as "ALERT". President of the organisation is Mr. Abebe -- second from the left -- who is also Ethiopia's Minister of Public Health.

A Vice-President is Dr. Aklilu Habte of the Haile Selassie University.

In his speech to the meeting, Mr. Abebe said the organisation now has six-and-a-half thousand leprosy patients registered for treatment. Of these, he said, about twelve hundred were admitted to the Princess Zanebe Memorial Hospital during the year to receive medical attention.

Thirty-two of these trainees, he told the delegates, had been doctors seeking post-graduate studies. The meeting discussed various aspects of the organisation's activities -- and carried out a thorough review of its future plans.
