The Black Panthers movement opened an "International Section" office in Algiers on Sunday (September 13). Black Panther leader, Eldridge Cleaver and the dozen or so other Black Panthers with him, have been provided with a villa by the Algerian National Liberation Front Party.
Algerian Party officials, Chinese, North Vietnamese and North korean Diplomats, as well as representatives of African liberation movements, attended the opening of the Black Panther office.
Eldridge Cleaver, who lives in Algiers, recently returned from a two months tour of North Vietnam, china and North Korean where he headed a delegation of the self-styled U.S. People's Anti-Imperialists.
Mr Cleaver told the press conference that at a meeting with Cambodia's deposed Prince Sihanouk, who is in exile in Peking, he was told that President Nixon was the best recruiting agent for Communism in the world. Prince Sihanouk was also said to have told them that his United Front would have three divisions of troops fighting the new Lon No1 Regime in Cambodia by the end of this year.
In a lengthy news release issued just prior to the opening of the International Office, the Black Panther organisation stated that the Algiers headquarters marked the first time "in the history of the 400 years long struggle of Black People inside the domestic confines of the United States of America for our freedom and liberation and national salvation, that we have established representation on an official level on the international stage of the struggle of the peoples of the whole world against colonialism, fascism, imperialism and neo-colonialism."
