???n's Crown Prince Akihito, accompanied by his wife Princess Michiko, arrived in Amman, Jordan, on Wednesday (9 June) on an official visit.
SYNOPSIS: They were greeted at Amman airport by a guard of honour and were received by King Hussein and queen Alia as they came down the steps of the aircraft. the Japanese Prince and Princess are on an 18-day tour covering Thailand, Jordan, Yugoslavia and Britain. Before their arrival in Jordan, they had a brief stopover in Thailand where they were met by Princess Strindhorn, daughter of King Bhimibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit, along with a small group of Japanese residents in Bangkok. Following the Jordan visit, the heir to the Japanese throne and his wife will make their first visit to a communist country by flying too Yugoslavia. There, they will meet President Tito. Five days later, the Japanese Royal couple will arrive in Britain for a private visit at the invitation of Queen Elizabeth. At Basman palace, Prince Akihito and Princess Michiko exchanged gifts with King Hussein and Queen Alia.
