  • Description

Continuing his campaign to make the United Arab Republic the industrial core of the Arab world, President Nasser August 8 inaugurated new production sections of the giant weaving and textile manufacturing mills at Mehall el-Kubra, Egypt.

Newly inaugurated UAR factories are already producing Egypt's first home-produced motor cars, water distillation plants, electrical turbines, and other products not before manufactured in that country. Claimed to be the largest textile mills in the middle East, the Mehall el-Kubra plant is bound to have its effect felt in large textile producing countries such as Japan and Hong Kong.

Before the revolution Egypt possessed only 300 weaving machines in the whole country, at Mehall el-Kubra more than a million have been installed and are now in operation.
