But he did not match his time when he set the world record, at the 1972 Olympics, at 47.8 seconds. In Piraeus on Thursday, he completed the course in 50.6 seconds, 0.2 ??? ahead of the man who came in second, Bratanof of Bulgaria.

    SYNOPSIS: At the 7th Athens Track and Field Games on Thursday, Ugandan Olympic champion, John Akki-Bua, repeated his Olympic success.

    In the 400-metres hurdles, he led the field to win -- but he did not match his record-setting performance at Munich last year. At the 1972 Olympics, Akki-Bua set a new world record for the 400-metres hurdles, at 47.8 seconds.

    On Thursday, the crowd saw him finish the race in 50.6 seconds, ahead of Bratanof of Bulgaria whose time was 50.8 seconds, Soriano of Spain at 50.9, Muller of West Germany, at 51.7. He was among 90 athletes from 20 countries who took part in the Athens Track and Field Games.
