    HISTORIC TASHKENT WAS ON MONDAY ROCKED BY ITS THIRD STRONG EARTHQUAKE WITHIN SEVEN DAYS, DASHING HOPES THAT THE TREMORS THAT BEGAN UNDER THE CENTRAL ASIAN CITY MORE THAN TWO MONTHS AGO WERE BEGINNING TO DIE DOWN. MEANWHILE, WORKERS FROM ALL PARTS OF THE SOVIET UNION ARE ARRIVING IN TASHKENT TO TAKE PART IN REBUILDING THE SHATTERED CITY.

    OFFICIAL ESTIMATES SAY 250,000 PERSONS OUT OF THE UZBEK CAPITAL'S POPULATION OF ONE MILLION HAVE BEEN MADE HOMELESS IN QUAKES SINCE 26 APRIL. MANY PERSONS HAVE BEEN SLEEPING OUTSIDE THEIR HOUSES FOR FEAR OF NEW TREMORS.

    SOME OF TASHKENT'S HOMELESS ARE BEING EVACUATED TO OTHER CITIES. THOSE WHO REMAIN TRY TO CARRY ON AS USUAL - GOING TO CINEMAS AND RESTAURANTS, AND ENJOYING THE WARM SUMMER EVENING IN THE CITY'S PARKS.
